Are the Democrats Caving on DACA Amnesty Again?

The Daily Wire asserts the Democrats are signalling a further cave in on DACA amnesty:

Senior Senate Democrat Dick Durbin (IL) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that legislators are unlikely to reach a deal on the Delayed Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) before the president’s March deadline, but that Democrats will not force a second government shutdown over the impasse.

“There is not likely to be a DACA deal, though we’re working every single day on telephone calls and person-to-person to try to reach this bipartisan agreement,” Durbin told host Jake Tapper. “I don’t see a government shutdown coming.”

This leaves Democrats with few options — and no leverage — going into the final weeks of negotiations over an immigration deal that they were, by all accounts, poised to ink with the president. But earlier in January, the deal broke down, reportedly over an included stipulation that would have given indefinite amnesty to parents of DACA recipients even though those parents knowingly violated U.S. immigration law.

But now, it seems that while budget negotiations are going smoothly, immigration negotiations aren’t seeing the same success. And Durbin’s interview seems to indicate an unconditional surrender on the issue.

What the Daily Wire is asserting here is that the Democrats are prepared to fund the government without making any progress on amnesty all.

That’s a HUGE win for us, if true. NWC has been arguing for some time that the Trump plan was to force the Democrats into a corner, and present them with two options.

The first option is to do nothing about DACA, and allow Obama’s illegal executive order to expire, which would allow the DACA recipients to be deported like any other illegal alien. The Democrat base does not want this.

The second option is to make a deal with Trump to legalize some DACA recipients, in exchange for funding to build the wall. The problem is, the Democrats’ SJW activist base has decided the Democrats must have full citizenship and amnesty for ALL illegal aliens and permanent open borders, and won’t allow for any compromise.

Their refusal to take what is a generous deal from Trump is not surprising. The Democrats have never had to compromise on anything in decades, and feel entitled to rule the country as miniature kings and oligarchs. They see no need to compromise with people they view as their intellectual and social inferiors.

A theoretical third option would be to shut down the government, but that must end with either McConnell ending the legislative filibuster or else the Democrats being forced to take options one or two, only with even more political damage than an early cave would bring.

The only way for the Democrats to win is a complete GOP cave, but somehow the Republicans have suddenly developed backbones, and are holding firm against the Democrats. This refusal to yield combined with bad poll numbers for the Democrats caused Schumer to cave during the last government shutdown.

The Democrats are now in a much weaker position than they were prior to the shutdown, so Durbin signalling a surrender is not a surprise.

Of course, there are caveats. First, we are not yet at the deadline for a budget to pass, and anything can happen in between now and then. A severe enough backlash by the big donors or the SJW base could make the Democrats rethink their position on this issue.

There is also clearly Democrat infighting going on, which the media is struggling to cover up. Durbin may not really be speaking for the whole Democrat caucus but rather his faction. Or he may be lying for some tactical advantage.

Regardless, I think victory is in sight for us on DACA if Trump and the Republicans can keep holding the lines. It looks like they just might pull it off.
