Gigi – Will the NFL learn a lesson now?

Ratings Disaster for NFL

Hi all!  This is Gigi!  Daddy gave me my own laptop to post things now!  This is gonna be so much fun!

Daddy and I are not watching NFL football, or any other sports any longer. But to see how people were handling things, I turned into the Seattle v Atlanta game for about 1 minute and then switched it off to play.

What struck me immediately was that there was excited crowd noise with each play. But there was no one in the stands. The noise was being piped into the broadcast, but not the stadium. So I went searching and lookie at what I found!

From ESPN:

NFL Films has been collecting multichannel surround audio recordings from every NFL stadium for the past four years, and those sounds will be used Sunday.

Over the past few months, NFL Films’ sound mixers spent hundreds of hours harvesting and cataloging sounds from each of the NFL’s stadiums that they had been saving in recent years for the league’s broadcast partners.

Each broadcast will have the option to create a unique sound palette for each team in that game. The sounds will be fed to the broadcast by an NFL-hired operator who is following the game and using a button panel to control playback from custom-configured software.

At any point this season, it could include the roar of the Seahawks‘ “12th Man,” or the boom of the Buccaneers‘ “Touchdown Cannons,” or the Jets‘ fans chant of “J-E-T-S! Jets! Jets! Jets!”

Does the NFL really believe that this will make the games better? Do they believe that fake noise will get more people to watch?

If so, then Roger Goodell must be even more stupid than I thought!

The opening game of the season, the Chief’s against the Texans was a complete disaster for the NFL. The stadium was allowed to have 20% capacity filled, about 17,000 fans. But as the seats were shown, it was really deserted.

Even worse for the NFL, the Texans stayed in the locker room for the National Anthem, which was done after the Black National Anthem. And then just before kickoff, both sides linked arms in unity for BLM.

Ratings for the first game of the season were down 16% from last year, and were the worst ratings in 10 years!  And that is for the Super Bowl winning Chiefs!

Factor in that many people just checked in to see what would happen with the “activism” on stage, and the ratings could have been far worse!  Just think if this had been the Jets or Redskins playing.

On Sunday, not to be outdone, the Ravens stood for the “Black National Anthem” and then took a knee for the “Star Spangled Banner.”

Atlanta took a knee as the Opening Kickoff occurred, remaining in position for 10 seconds before the special teams left the field so the game could go on. The Seahawks did the same.

The Vikings hosted the family of the criminal thug George Floyd, whose death from excited delirium started this mess.

The Pack, Jags, Bills, Jets, Cardinals and Miami stayed in their locker rooms for the Anthem while other teams engaged in their own protests.

Can’t these idiots keep their opinions to themselves? I could just gnaw their toes and ankles to pieces!

The end results? Sunday Night Football appears to be close to 20% down in the ratings from Week 1 last year. Daytime game ratings have not been stated yet, but appear just as bad. By Week 4, things will be truly dismal.

Just as well, I would much rather eat, sleep, play and get my ears and belly rubbed than bother with this silly game any longer.
