The Sickening Darkness

Darkness Can Only Be Driven Out By The Light of Jesus Christ!

DARKNESS THAT’S FELT MEANS OOZING WICKEDNESS IS ALL—PERVADING

“And the LORD said unto Moses, ‘Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.’  And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:  They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.”

“And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.”

“Then Jesus said unto them, ‘Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.  While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.’ These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.”

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”

“No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.  The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.  Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.  If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.”

HOW DARK DOES A SOCIETY HAVE TO GET BEFORE THAT DARKNESS IS FELT?  How evil does a nation have to become for that evil to make someone physically ill?  How wicked does a country get when its wickedness makes people sick?  Can it be said that the United States of America has reached that point, that place where the darkness of men’s deeds and the wickedness of people’s actions are making people physically ill?

THE DOMINANCE OF BLACK LIVES MATTER AND ANTIFA — Over the last few months (in Portland, Oregon, it has been nearly 70 days), we have seen Black Lives Matter (BLM) and AntiFa quite literally rule the streets of the USA since the passages of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Rayshard Brooks.  We have not only witnessed rampant looting, violent riots, deadly shootings (especially of police and law enforcement officers [sources 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]) in Democrat-led and Liberally controlled cities and states, pulling down of statues and defacing of murals; we have also seen major professional sports literally kowtow and start their respective seasons on bended knee, giving homage to (and worshiping, perhaps?) AntiFa and BLM (to much negative affect); politicians and government officials bend their knees to BLM/AntiFa; and numerous businesses have donated or pledged to give hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars to BLM/AntiFa.

Even churches and Christian Leaders have given into the dominance of Black Lives Matter.  Even further, the news has been dominated the last two months with coverage of the BLM Riots and AntiFa violence in leftist cities and liberal states.  Still even further, major professional sports have promised to sing the US National Anthem and a so-called “Black National Anthem”.  Every professional sport has seen so-called BLM Kneeling “Protests” during the National Anthem before commencing matches.

Can we not see how BLM and AntiFa have been given the power that they have; the resources that they utilize; the weapons that they use against the police, law enforcement, and federal officers?  Do we not realize that this power has been given?  Do we fail to understand that Benito Mussolini, Hideki Tojo, and Adolf Hitler were similarly given the power that they used to plunge the world into the bloodiest and destructive war the world has ever seen?  Do we fail to learn from Scripture…?

No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, ‘Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.  And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.’”

“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”

“Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.”

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”

“For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:  As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.”

“While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.”

DARKNESS THAT IS FELT:  WHERE DOES IT BEGIN?  It interesting to note where in Scripture these two plagues of Darkness that is Felt come in the two instances.  In Exodus, the Plague of Darkness is the ninth plague, immediately before the final plague (the death of the firstborn in Egypt).  In Revelation, the Plague of Darkness is the fifth of the final seven vial judgments.

In essence, these two plagues of intense darkness are the final warnings before horrific and terrible wrath and judgment fall.  Could this be what the USA is experiencing:  intense and horrific judgment of intense and excruciating darkness, GOD’s final call before the last, horrific event hits?  But how did these Plagues of Darkness reach such a point?  We need not look very far into the Book of Exodus

“And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:  And he said, ‘When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.’  But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.  And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, ‘Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?’  And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, ‘Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.’  Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.  And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.  And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.”

Similarly can be said for the Book of Revelation

“And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, ‘Come and see.’  And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.  And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, ‘Come and see.’  And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.  And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, ‘Come and see.’ And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.  And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, ‘A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.’  And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, ‘Come and see.’  And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.”

In each of these cases, the Plagues of Darkness come only after terrible decisions to usher in massive death.  We can see this as a pattern throughout history.  Ancient Rome didn’t fall until after massive persecution (at least ten empire-wide) of the Christian Church.  Nazi Germany crumbled after gassing twelve million untermenschen, including six million Jews.  Soviet Russia similarly collapsed after Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, and their subsequent successors had placed tens of millions of Jews, dissidents, Christians, and other undesirables into gulags, or executing them outright.  Imperial Japan collapsed after putting to death anywhere between nine and thirty-eight million Chinese, and untold millions of Koreans, Filipinos, Thai, and other Asian Nations that felt the boot of he Imperial Japanese Army.

So what does all of that have to do with the USA?  How does the United States of America fit into such a category, if horrific death is involved in bringing about Darkness that is Felt?  Not only did the Supreme Court of the United States usher in institutional GOD-lessness via the 1962 the Engel v. Vitale, and the combined Abington School District v. Schempp—Murray v. Curlett Decision of 1963, but the Roe v. Wade Decision of 1973 began the unrelenting slaughter of the unborn via what is euphemistically called “Abortion on Demand”.  Since 1973, sixty-two million babies have been killed in the womb, more than 99% sacrificed to the god of “self”.

Friends, this kind of slaughter has been happening for nearly fifty years.  When the heart of the leadership of a nation is so hardened, how much, really, does GOD have to do to bring in Darkness that can be Felt?  In the USA, alone, since 1973, we have sacrificed, on average, just under a million and a half babies per year.  Can it really be a surprise, then, that USA is experiencing an evil, a wickedness, a terror, where human life has been shown to be cheap and expendable?

ENTER THE CULTURE OF DEATH — What the USA has seen since the Roe v. Wade Decision — yea, even the Engel v. Vitale and the Abington School District v. Schempp—Murray v. Curlett Decisions — is the entrance of the culture of death in to the United States of America.  Since Roe v. Wade, we have seen assisted suicide, right to die, and “death with dignity” being made the law in several states.  We have seen a court-mandated edict to remove a feeding tube from a woman whose husband had her declared brain-dead, over the objections of the woman’s parents and family [source, 2, 3, 4, 5].  Mr. Welsey J. Smith correctly writes this in a recent National Review article on the Schiavo Case…

“The Terri Schiavo case tore this country apart, and alas, proved a significant accelerant to the spread of the culture of death in America.”

The late Charles Colson also wrote succinctly and presciently about the Schiavo case…

“As a result, the ‘culture of death’ has taken several steps forward. Instead of giving life the benefit of the doubt, we are all-too-ready to choose death.”

This culture of death that Mr. Smith and Mr. Colson write about extends even further…

“Protesters continue to cry out that “black lives matter” as they decry all police and insist that our shared national history is marred by white supremacy and systemic racism. But as the names of only a few people killed by police continue to circulate among protesters as examples of racial injustice in the country, the bodies of black Americans are dropping at alarming rates in cities across the nation.

“That rampant violence has spared no one and now, only a week into the month of July, as the nation celebrated our Declaration of Independence from bloody tyranny 244 years ago, at least 10 children have been killed amid the disturbing increase in violence on our own city streets. The deaths of these children, not at the hands of law enforcement or a white supremacist, do not fit the political narrative being driven by a group claiming that Black Lives Matter because, to them, a death that doesn’t help their cause is hardly worth mentioning.”

“Over the month until June 7 — including the crucial Memorial Day weekend — New York’s murder rate more than doubled, to 42 murders, from 18 the year before — a jolt of 133 percent. Shooting victims, including wounded, are up 45 percent. Stabbings are up, too.”

“Overall crime in Chicago fell by 20% in May 2020 compared to the same period last year, despite increases in shootings and homicides, according to statistics released Saturday by the Chicago Police Department.

“The 20% reduction is for the general category including murder, criminal sexual assault, robbery, aggravated battery, burglary, theft and vehicle theft, according to a statement from police.

“However, shootings across the city increased by 71% last month, with 409 people shot in May 2020 compared to 332 shooting victims in May 2019, according to police statistics. Murders were also up by about 60%, with 85 reported in May 2020 compared to 53 last year.

From January through May, 1,127 shooting victims have been recorded in Chicago, up nearly 30% from 868 in the same period in 2019, according to police. The 245 murders from January through May also mark a 25% increase from the 196 murders in the same period last year.”

“The Portland Police Bureau said July saw the highest number of deadly crimes in the city since the 1980s, as officers investigated 15 deadly shootings or stabbings this month. The number includes two people killed this week at vigils held for other victims.”

“At the height of New York’s coronavirus lockdown, domestic violence in the five boroughs skyrocketed, data show.

“When the pandemic first laid siege, experts predicted that mandatory lockdowns and soaring unemployment would cause a rise in household abuse, and figures now bear them out — with domestic-violence reports at some agencies doubling and even tripling in the past few months.

“‘We’ve never been busier,’’ lamented Nechama Bakst, senior director of the Met Council’s family-violence program.”

THE BOTTOM LINE:  SICKENING DARKNESS MEANS WORSE IS IN THE OFFING!  As has been shown in Scripture and throughout History, when Sickening Darkness falls upon a land, a nation, and a society, worse — far, far worse — is on it’s way.  GOD put Darkness between Pharaoh and the Egyptian Army, and Moses and the Children of Israel.  What happened next was the final destruction of Pharaoh and his army.  Scripture further records…

“They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.”

“Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron; Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:  Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.”

“The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.”

“All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.”

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!  Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!  Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:  Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!”

“And when they shall say unto you, ‘Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter:’ should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?  To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.  And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.  And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.”

“Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.  Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.  The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.  We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men.”

CONCLUSION:  IT IS USUALLY DARKEST JUST BEFORE DAWN!  On the flip side of darkness that can be felt, we see that there is also salvation ready to be delivered.  During the three days Jesus the Messiah was in the grave, it was the darkest time for the apostles and disciples closest to Jesus.  Yet after the Third Day, the light shone in their hearts and minds and souls as never before!

Despite the nonsense of BLM and AntiFa; of “Defund the Police” and Government officials ordering Law enforcement to stand down during the riots; and of Leftists in the USA running amok, there is still a chance, still an opportunity for revival, for the Sickening Darkness and later wrath to be averted.

Just as in the days of the Kingdom of Judah, we have a leader who is doing his best to right the nation.  Like King Josiah of old, President Trump has done his level best to not only put America First in the world, but GOD first in America.

We can only see revival if people will repent, and we place our trust in the Risen Savior.  Only Christ can drive out Darkness…even Sickening Darkness.

PRAYER:  Heavenly Father, will you help us during this time of darkness, during these days of wickedness?  Will you bring us, your church, your people to whom you have granted salvation, and who have repented, to you again?  Will you bring a Great Awakening to the USA, so that the Sickening Darkness is prevented and set back further?  We thank Thee, Father, and we pray all of these things in the Name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and our Risen Savior, Amen!

THE LAST WORD:  “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.”   —Micah vii. 8
