Charging Men of GOD Foolishly Usually Garners a Swift and Scorching Reaction.
“And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, ‘How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.’ Then said Elijah unto the people, ‘I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men. Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God.’ And all the people answered and said, ‘It is well spoken.’”
“And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, ‘LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.’ Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, ‘The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.’”
WE HAVE SEEN, OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS, MANY GOVERNORS AND MAYORS EDICT UNCONSTITUTIONAL EXECUTIVE ORDERS. COVID-19 has changed the face of the United States of America into a country — which once had Constitutionally Guaranteed and Bill of Rights Protected freedoms, five found in the 1st Amendment alone, of peaceful assembly and religious expression — where Chief Executives of the Governments of many Democratically led cities and states have forcibly closed down houses of worship.
Even those adhering to the President’s and the Center for Disease Control’s guidelines have been threatened with stiff and severe penalties and fines if Executive Orders were not followed. While there are numerous states where churches and pastors have been threatened with penalties, fines, and even jail time, this treatise will focus primarily on the State of California.
COVID-19 PLANDEMIC AND WUHAN VIRUS FORCE-FEITURE OF FREEDOM — We have see many, many governors and mayors issue executive orders shutting down in-person worship in churches over the last few months…
“A divided Supreme Court on Friday night turned down a request by a Nevada church for permission to hold services on the same terms that other facilities in the state, including casinos, are allowed to hold gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court’s more liberal justices in denying the plea from Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley, a Christian church located about 15 miles outside the state’s capital, Carson City. The ruling drew sharp dissents from the court’s more conservative justices, with Justice Samuel Alito writing that although the ‘Constitution guarantees the free exercise of religion,’ it ‘says nothing about the freedom to play craps or blackjack.’
“Earlier this month the church asked the justices to issue an order that would allow it to hold in-person worship services with as many as 90 people while it challenges the COVID-19 shutdown order issued by the state’s Democratic governor, Steve Sisolak.”
“Churches in California and Minnesota, backed by a conservative legal group, filed lawsuits this week against the governors of their states challenging restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus outbreak that they contend are violations of religious liberty. They’re the latest in a long series of legal challenges…”
“In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, various governing authorities have called for the cessation of public gatherings, including church gatherings. In my own state of North Carolina, Gov. Roy Cooper gave an executive order forbidding public gatherings of more than 100 people. This means that the majority of churches in North Carolina are forbidden to meet for at least two weeks. Now with the latest CDC guidance, churches may be asked to not hold services until well after Easter.”
“Democrat Governor of Kentucky Orders Police to Take Down Tag Numbers of Church-Goers, Other Easter Gatherings So Government Can Impose Two Week Quarantines on Citizens
“Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear told police to take down tag numbers of people attending churches and other gatherings on Easter so the government could go to their homes and impose a 14-day quarantine over COVID-19 concerns.”
IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA — GOD speaks pretty clearly about the gathering together of the Saints…
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
“I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go into the house of the LORD.’”
Christians have a Biblical Mandate, from GOD, to assemble for worship. On at least two occasions, the Resurrected Christ Jesus came when the Apostles and disciples were gathered together. In fact, Yehoshua Ha’Mashiach states this…
“Again I say unto you, ‘That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.’ For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
The pastors and churches mentioned in the treatise are not assembling in order to be defiant to the State; they are doing so to follow a practice set in place by Jesus Christ himself…
“And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.”
These churches, their pastors, and their people are meeting and practicing in accordance with a law that is far and above the Constitution of the United States of America (though protected in the USA by it).
GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOM, CITY OF LOS ANGELES, AND THE BRIDGE TOO FAR — Aside from Michigan Governor Christine Whitmer and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Governor Gavin Newsom has probably taken more dictatorial steps with regards to Gubernatorial Executive Orders concerning COVID-19 “prevention” and Social Distancing than any other governor in the USA…
“A prosecutor warned the pastor of a church in California that he, church staff and attendees could face jail time if they continue to defy government COVID-19 orders by holding and attending in-person worship services.
“Pastor Ché Ahn of Harvest Rock Church in Pasadena was sent a letter, dated last Thursday, from Chief Pasadena Assistant Prosecutor Michael P. Dowd, warning him of the consequences should his church continue to defy Gov. Gavin Newsom’s orders prohibiting in-person worship in counties on the state’s watchlist.”
“As COVID-19 positive cases continue to rise in California, Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday called for the closure of several operations, including fitness centers and churches, in 30 counties. Los Angeles County is among those, with the closures in effect for at least three days.
“Additional closures in these 30 counties consist of malls and personal care businesses, such as barbershops, hair salons, nail salons and tattoo shops.”
“Pastor Rob McCoy and the Newbury Park church he leads were held in contempt of court Friday for failing to obey a restraining order that prohibits indoor worship services in an attempt to curb COVID-19.“
Ventura County Superior Court Judge Vincent O’Neill Jr. issued the ruling against McCoy and the Godspeak Calvary Chapel after a two-hour hearing in Ventura. He fined the chapel $3,000, but did not impose any fines on McCoy.
“That was half the $6,000 Ventura County officials had recommended against the church, based on a fine of $1,000 for each of the six services held indoors over the past two Sundays. County officials had not recommended a fine against McCoy either.”
“Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that four new counties would be required to close hair salons, gyms and other businesses, marking the first time the state has updated its list of areas experiencing high transmission of COVID-19 in more than two weeks since a massive data flub skewed the count of positive cases.
“The state uses the list to monitor surges in coronavirus cases, hospitalizations and community transmissions and to guide decisions on allowing counties to open certain sectors, including schools and in-person services at places of worship.”
We can see that the US Constitution seems to mean nothing to Gov. Newsom, especially when it comes to church services; this also applies to those in government in the State of California.
POKING GOD IN THE EYE — We have already seen above that Governor Newsom has, via one of his prosecutors, threatened jail time for one pastor, Rev. Ché Ahn of Harvest Rock Church in Pasadena. Rev. John MacArthur has also been charged (or, the request to charge Dr. MacArthur has at least been sent) with contempt of court for failing to abide by Gov. Newsom’s edicts, and Los Angeles County’s demands for his church, Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. Another minister…
“Pastor Tim Thompson returned to Sacramento on Wednesday to conduct a National Day of Prayer service just days after being arrested for ‘creating a public health hazard’ by attending a rally urging Gov. Gavin Newsom to reopen the state.”
We have also seen more than three thousand pastors and churches defy Gov. Newsom’s Safer-at-Home edicts concerning COVID-19. All of this is happening while certain other “businesses” are allowed to remain open, due to their being designated “essential” by the Government of California…
“A California church has sued the state, arguing it was hypocritical to restrict religious services because of the Covid-19 pandemic while allowing political gatherings, such as Black Lives Matters protests, to rumble on.
“Grace Community Church in suburban Los Angeles filed the suit on Thursday, saying Governor Gavin Newsom and other state and city officials have violated California’s constitution by applying pandemic regulations unequally.”
This is happening to pastors and churches in California, all the while abortion clinics and liquor stores have been open (both being deemed “essential”; but so have churches, per President Trump’s edict), and violent criminals have also been released back onto the streets from jails, due to the COVID-19 PlanDemic.
Can we not see how this is calling that which is good “evil”…? Can we not see how this is all poking GOD in the Eye?
THE MOCKERY OF UNBELIEVERS — Probably the most dishonest, mocking sector in American Society of anything having to do with Christianity is The Friendly Atheist Section of the Patheos website (itself a dishonest site in that it alleges to promote all religions equally, yet seems to stomp on truly Christian Values quite regularly; case in point is a recent article, “When the Bible is Not the Word of God”). This site has published numerous articles mocking Christians and attempting to flay the Bible.
On top of all of this, The Friendly Atheist writers have been in the lead in condemning California Pastors who have dared to defy Gov. Newsom’s unconstitutional and unequal orders, particularly Pastor MacArthur…
“For weeks now, California megachurch leader John MacArthur has been holding massive in-person services at his Grace Community Church, rejecting a lot of sensible advice on how to prevent the spread of COVID. This is the same guy who said last month that compliance with the law ‘would be disobedience to our Lord’s clear commands.’
“It got even worse when MacArthur condemned pastors who weren’t spreading COVID around. He said ‘they don’t know what a church is, and they don’t shepherd their people.’ (Well, not toward death, anyway.)”
“Hilarious. I’m sure it’ll be even funnier when MacArthur is delivering that sermon to someone dying in a hospital bed due to his negligence.”
All the while, The Friendly Atheist writers praised a group of atheists who gathered, again, in the face of COVID-19 restrictions, to hand out food. It’s also interestingly hypocritical of The Friendly Atheist writers to condemn Churches wanting to stay open, yet fail to denounce those going to WalMart, grocery stores, and liquor establishments (not to mention abortion clinics), especially seeing how all of these places have had delivery services established since the COVID-19 Lock-downs were enacted.
CALIFORNIA BURNING — It’s a little more than coincidental that, not long after Pastors MacArthur, McCoy, and Ahn were dealt their govermental blows, wildfires erupted in California (source,2,3,4). In fact, according to one news site, upwards of twelve thousand lightening strikes caused the eruption of these wildfires in California…
“Around 560 fires have been fought, and an area larger than the US state of Rhode Island has been burned.
“The dry-lightning storms are California’s worst in almost two decades, and have been driven by record temperatures, which have parched the land.”
We see a curious verse in The Book of the Prophet Isaiah…
“Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.”
Could it be that GOD is reminding the Government of California, and her counties and states, that messing around with His Messengers is serious business? The Apostle Peter writes similarly…
“But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”
IT’S HAPPENED BEFORE. In the late 1990s, Governor Lawton Chiles, lately of Florida, vetoed an abortion bill that would have made partial-birth abortion illegal across the state. Gov. Chiles also gave tacit support to the Sodomite Community…
“At the time, then Florida Governor Lawton Chiles said, ‘… I believe that, by and large, most Floridians are tolerant and will one day come to view a broader range of domestic partnerships as acceptable part of life.’”
Gov. Chiles also employed a homosexual as operations director for his 1994 re-election campaign, and later in his second administration as governor.
In 1997, Pat Robertson, founder of The 700 Club and, at the time, a staunch Christian Minister and President of the Christian Coalition, spoke out against the veto of the partial birth abortion bill by Gov. Chiles on his daily radio program via The 700 Club. A year later, Mr. Robertson, again, spoke out and warned of disaster for Florida because of the City of Orlando supporting a “Gay ‘Pride’” day at Disney World.
Much like Pastor MacArthur, Mr. Robertson was excoriated and mocked for his words both then, and ever since. Both Media Matters (at the time) and The Huffington Post (since then) — among many others — have mercilessly mocked him for his then-dire predictions.
That year, in 1998, Florida experienced some of her worst wildfires in history. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) published a report concerning the Florida Wildfires of 1998 that stated the following…
“The entire State of Florida was ravaged by an unprecedented series of wildland and urban interface fires during the period from late-May to mid-July, 1998. Almost 500,000 acres were burned, along with more than 150 structures and 86 vehicles, in more than 2,200 individual fires. The total direct and indirect economical impact of these fires will probably exceed one billion dollars. The damage to timber alone was estimated at over $300 million.”
THE BOTTOM LINE: GOD OFTEN USES FIRE TO SHOW HIS DISPLEASURE! We have already seen passages that show GOD’s use of fire to show his displeasure and reaction to sin. GOD does not play games when it comes to those who would hurt his messengers…
“Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, ‘Thou man of God, the king hath said, “Come down.”’ And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, ‘If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty.’ And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.”
Friends, GOD doesn’t play games when it comes to those who would harm his messengers, his men!
CONCLUSION: GAVIN NEWSOM NEEDS TO GET RIGHT WITH GOD! Governor Newsom is in a dire position. He has supported charges against the pastors in California previously listed, leveled indictments against them, and demanded churches be closed upon pain of fines, penalties, and jail time for pastors who defy him.
It needs to be stated that a leader who does such is in grave, grave danger. King Herod was himself struck dead by GOD, after executing James Barzebedee and imprisoning (with the intent to execute) Simon Barjonah: two of Jesus Christ’s closest apostles, and two of the strongest leaders in the early church. Queen Jezebel was eaten by dogs, years after she ordered the executions of GOD’s Prophets in Israel, and had threatened the Prophet Elijah, during her husband’s, King Ahab, reign. King Amaziah was defeated in battle and later murdered after threatening one of GOD’s Prophets.
Even more recently, we see that, in Florida, following Pat Robertson’s dire and unheeded warnings, Governor Lawton Chiles did not leave the Office of Governor of Florida alive: he died in office on December 12th, 1998, just two weeks before he was to retire. Gov. Newsom is in a dire, dangerous place himself, and lest he repent, he, too, will likewise perish. We call upon Gov. Gavin Newsom to repent, and ask forgiveness from the Living GOD!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we pray for the life and for the soul of Governor Gavin Newsom of California. Would you help him, O LORD, to turn to you in repentance and forgiveness? Will you also be with Pastors in California, and else where in the USA and world, who are facing persecution for holding services? Will you also be with and protect those in the path of and those brave firefighters battling against these wildfires? We pray all of this in That Name Above Every Name, Jesus Christ, Amen!
THE LAST WORD: “And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.” —Exodus ix. 23–24
