Christians Are Losing The Cultural War Because We Have Forsaken The Bible!
“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?’ And then will I profess unto them, ‘I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.’ Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”
“For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. And why call ye me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”
Why Are We *NOT* Reading the Bible: Part II — In the Previous Treatise, we took a look at the statistics concerning the reading and study of GOD’s written Word, and what the Bible truly is. In this treatise, we will look at the consequences of not reading the Bible, especially for Christians.
Western Christians Aren’t Reading The Bible. That was the finding of several polls and surveys taken over the last decade or so. Of all Christians, only about a third read the Bible every day. What does it say for the state of the church when two-thirds of Christians fail to regularly read the written Word of GOD? Further, if Christians aren’t founding our lives upon the written Word of GOD, upon what are we founding our lives?
The Words of Yeshua Ha’Mashiach Are Clear! Friends, the Words of Jesus the Messiah, concerning His Words are clear as a bell…
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, ‘Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.’ Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
“Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”
Friends, if we, as Christians, aren’t reading the Bible, upon what found we our lives? According to the LORD Himself, if we fund our lives upon anything else than His Words, we are founding our lives upon shifting sands…and we know what happens to lives founded upon such when the storms of life arise, and the winds of detriment assail!
Wherein Does Our Anchor Lie? The Bible describes further…
“Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.”
“When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth…”
“Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, ‘Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.’”
“And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”
Friends, we have it right here in black-and-white that there is no other foundation, no other anchor, by which we may found our lives than upon Jesus Christ. If we DO found out lives upon something else, here is the result…
“Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”
The Proof Is In The Pudding. In recent days and years, depression and suicide have been on the rise in the United States of America. The number of abortions in the USA is now over sixty million (that’s 60,000,000) since 1973. Homosexuality is now, not only accepted and tolerated, but embraced in the USA, with the Federal Government giving special “rights” to the homosexual community. Americans are getting married, but increasingly are seeing divorce happen in nearly one out of two marriages. We are seeing these come into, and be embraced by, the Church. Homosexuality is now embraced by a very large number of denominations. Currently, the United Methodist Church is set to break up as a direct result of the question of the validity of homosexuality. Suicide is now on the rise in the church and among pastors…
“A long-term member of our church approached me just before service recently with a serious look on his face. Every pastor knows that moment. Service is about to begin, what is this about? He had never done this before, so I honestly didn’t know what to expect.
“He asked me if I knew a man who pastored a good church in a neighboring city. There was a connection between some mutual friends, but I didn’t know him. He then told me that years ago the pastor had been in an accident, and ever since had battled depression. I got a sinking feeling about what he was going to tell me.“Sure enough, the pastor committed suicide just the week before. It was the second incident like this I had heard of in 3 weeks.”[source]
“In another church tragedy, Pastor Isaac Hunter—the son of the spiritual adviser to President Obama—has reportedly taken his own life. Hunter’s death is making national headlines because of his megachurch father Pastor Joel Hunter’s influence on the White House, his marriage troubles and an undated suicide note found last year, but his death is far from the only pastoral suicide in recent months.
“Just days ago, a pastor who was grieving his dead wife reportedly shot himself in front of his mother and son, expressing that he was hearing his dead spouse’s voice and footsteps. Pastor Ed Montgomery and his late wife, prophetess Jackie Montgomery, served at the Full Gospel Assemblies International church in Hazel Crest, Ill.
“In November, a Georgia pastor killed himself in between Sunday services. Larrinecia Sims Parker, wife of the Rev. Teddy Parker Jr., found the pastor in the driveway of their home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Houston County coroner Danny Galpin reports.
“Why the sudden rash of pastors committing suicide? Suicide is not a new problem among clergy, but three known suicides in less than two months begs a deeper look at the issue.
“There is no lack of statistics about pastors and depression, burnout, health, low pay, spirituality, relationships and longevity—and none of them are good. According to the Schaeffer Institute, 70 percent of pastors constantly fight depression, and 71 percent are burned out. Meanwhile, 72 percent of pastors say they only study the Bible when they are preparing for sermons; 80 percent believe pastoral ministry has negatively affected their families; and 70 percent say they don’t have a close friend.
“The Schaeffer Institute also reports that 80 percent of seminary and Bible school graduates will leave the ministry within five years. It’s not clear how many commit suicide, but it is clear that pastors are not immune to it. Psychologists point to several reasons why people commit suicide, from depression to psychosis to stressful life situations. But one thing is certain: Whatever drives someone to take their own life ultimately begins in the mind. Suicidal thoughts precede suicide.”[sources: 1, 2, 3, 4]
Abortion is also a problem in the church…
“Over 40 percent of women who have had an abortion say they were frequent churchgoers at the time they ended their pregnancies and about a half of them say they kept their abortions hidden from church members, new LifeWay Research shows.
“In a survey released Monday that was sponsored by the pregnancy center support organization Care Net, researchers from the Christian research group LifeWay found that about 70 percent of women who had an abortion self-identified as Christians, while 43 percent say they attended a Christian church at least once per month or more at the time they aborted their child.
“The survey, which interviewed 1,038 respondents who’ve all had abortions, found that 20 percent of the respondents attended church at least once a week at the time of their first pregnancy termination. Six percent said they attended church more than once per week, while about 54 percent said they rarely or never attended a church.
“As a majority Christian churches do not support aborting a child, only 7 percent of women said they discussed their abortion decision with anyone at church, while 52 percent said no one at their church knew about their abortion. Additionally, 76 percent of them say that the church had no influence on their decision to go through with the abortion.”[sources: 1, 2]
The final sentence in this quote is the most chilling…and the most telling…
“Additionally, 76 percent of them say that the church had no influence on their decision to go through with the abortion.”
Is it any surprise, friends, that 70% of American Christians do not read the written Word of GOD, all the while 76% of Christians getting abortions also viewed their church as having no influence on their decision to get an abortion? Can we see the correlation here?
If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Friends, this poignant question is one that is staring the Church of Jesus Christ in the West and in the United States of America right in the face. If our foundation is destroyed, what can even the Righteous do? And here is yet another glaring question; one, again, that smacks the Church of Jesus Christ right in the nose…
“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?”
Friends, it’s come to this: if we, as the Body of Christ, reject the Bible to the tune of nearly 70%, why is it that we expect good things, revival, and GOD’s Blessings? What we can expect is GOD’s abandonment of us. Look at what it states here…
“I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright. But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.”
“And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them. But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.”
This is explained similarly in a more modern way here…
“It may not be a coincidence that during this period of increasing suicide rates, the influence of Christianity has been declining in America. Fewer Americans claim to be Christians than ever before, and fewer yet know much about what Christianity teaches. As the impact of Christianity decreases in America, I believe our suicide rate may continue to increase. Why? Because the primary goal for most of us in a post-Christian nation is happiness rather than holiness; success rather than significance.
“There is an established relationship religious belief and suicide. As belief increases, suicide efforts decrease. Christianity (the dominant religious belief in America) provides a framework for pursuing significance and a strategy for navigating hardships. That’s why suicide rates are likely to increase if Christianity – and the very practical benefits it provides – continues to wane.”[sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
The Bottom Line: Rock or Sand? For which of these, friends, do we wish: Rock or Sand? If the stats and the trends continue, the Church of Jesus Christ will continue to wane in her influence. The written Word of the LORD promises this: blessings will not come from GOD if we reject his Word…
“And Samuel said, ‘Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.’”
“Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God. And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them. And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.”
Conclusion: Return Unto GOD’s Word! This is what we must do, friends…
“‘Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.’”
If we will return to GOD, he will return unto us!
Prayer: Father, we need to return unto Thy written Word. Will you, O LORD, help us to turn off the TV, turn off the radio, stay away from the Movie Houses, and open your written Word once again? We thank Thee and we Praise Thee, and we pray all of these things in Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen!
The Last Word: “And Jesus answered him, saying, ‘It is written, “That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”’” (Luke iv. 4)
NOTES — 1. All Scripture is taken from The Authorized King James Version of the Bible. London, England, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK). Initially published 1611AD.
2. Author’s Note: Worldwide, abortions now top 1.5 Billion since 1980, with nearly twelve million in 2020 alone.
4. Author’s Note: Could this be the Great Falling Away, as is described here…?
“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.”
5. Author’s Note: Similarly is written by Baralphaeus, Levi “Matthew”. The Gospel of Jesus Christ According to Saint Matthew. Jerusalem, Province of Judaea, Imperium Romanum. 1st Century AD. Ch. iv, v. 4: “But he answered and said, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”’”
