COULD THE COVID-19 PANIC BE A SMALL GLIMPSE INTO THE DAYS AFTER THE RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH?
“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars;and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
“But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.”
IN RECENT DAYS, AS THE MONTH OF MARCH HAS ENTERED INTO ITS THIRD WEEK, COVID-19,also known as Coronavirus, has been on almost everyone’s mind. The recent announcement by the World Health Organization (WHO), declaring Coronavirus a pandemic, has heightened fears, raised the specter of failing government, and caused widespread panic. Major news outlets around the United States of America (USA) and the world have only added fuel to the fires of fear with their nearly incessant reporting of the effects and affects of the spread of COVID-19. We have seen multiple instances of people in markets, groceries, and department stores quite literally fighting over basic necessities and food staples, in efforts to “stock up” on what is feared could be a widespread quarantine and lock-down situation. In seeing these situations and examples of panic around the world, especially in western nations, with regards to the spread of Coronavirus, could this be a glimpse, a tiny view, into the chaos, desperation, panic, and fears following the Rapture of the Church? Is this a lesson for those of us here on Earth that the lead-up to the End Times will see similarly with regards to the total craziness of people at stores, markets, and department stores, which we’ve seen over the last few weeks?
WE WERE WARNED! The Bible has given us and still gives us clear and prescient warning concerning days like these, where fear and panic and confusion have seemingly run amok…
“And as it was in the days of Noe,so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot’s wife.”
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
In these two excerpts from the Gospels, Christ Jesus Himself warns us of the days of his coming again. Days will be normal, placid, and fair…right up until his return happens. We see elements and examples of similar warnings in the following…
“Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots: Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty. The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan, And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up, And upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall, And upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant pictures. And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. And the idols he shall utterly abolish. And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, whenhe ariseth to shake terribly the earth. In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.”
“Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt: And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames. Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.”
“For it is the day of the LORD’S vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up forever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.”
“For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been. But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.”
And these passages are but a few of many. Again, we see in the New Testament, Jesus the Messiah and John the Baptist, warnings about the coming of GOD and the Day of the LORD…
“In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, ‘Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”
“Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.’”
Friends, we need not — if we believe in Jesus Christ and have trusted in him as Savior and LORD of our lives — be afraid of these days that we are in. We have been warned, with ample time for preparation.
THE CORONAVIRUS *IS NOT* THE JUDGMENT OF GOD! Some questions were asked which piqued some interest…

Many people read The Book of the Revelation of Saint John the Divine (colloquially known as “Revelation”), see all the plagues and pestilences and disasters written — many read very little of Revelation or much of any other Book of the Bible — and automatically ask the above questions when any disaster or calamity hits. Questions similar to those above were asked on September 11th,2001, when terrorists dropped the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, and blew a hole in the side of the Pentagon. Many more are said to have asked similarly about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 8th,1941; the Boxing Day Earthquake and Tsunami of 2004; the Haitian Earthquake of 2010 and Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami of 2011; and many more disasters and epidemics and plagues listed here. Currently, India, Pakistan, parts of China, Persian Gulf Nations, and large swathes of Africa are also suffering under horrific locust plagues. Parts of the world are also suffering under heavy drought. We are still seeing numerous wars and conflicts, the latest dust-up being between Greece and Turkey over mass refugee movements on their shared border. Friends, all of this – including the Coronavirus – was predicted by Christ Jesus Himself…
“Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, ‘I am Christ;’ and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”
This COVID-19 virus is simply one more plague as has been written about and spoken of in the Bible.
THE DAY OF THE LORD WILL BE FAR, FAR WORSE! Reading the Book of the Revelation of Saint John the Divine, we can see that conditions on the Earth will be horrifically worse than anything we are seeing presently. Conditions then will be so bad, that the prominent will call for the mountains and hills to fall upon them in their cavernous hiding places…
“And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every freeman, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, ‘Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?’”
And these events, plagues, pestilences, and disasters written of in the Book of Revelation will simply be GOD trying to get the Earth’s attention, once again, just as he ever has in the past. That’s basically what the CoronaVirus is: one of GOD’s further attempts to get people’s attention; to get them to turn to him in repentance and forgiveness, and to turn to him in trust and obedience. As bad as the disasters are as written in Revelation, they are, again, GOD trying to get people to repent, turn to him, and place their trust in him! Despite this, despite the warnings now, which we have in GOD’s written Word, we read these incredibly tragic words…
“And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God,which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.”
When reading through the Book of Revelation, and many other prophetic books, it is easy to see that the chaos, pandemonium, hysteria, and angst caused by COVID-19 is nothing by comparison. Many End Times writers, such as James BeauSeigneur, the late Tim LaHaye, and Jerry Jenkins, just to name a few, write of a very chaotic time, oft in very grisly fashion…
“When he returned to the television, the scene had changed to the parking lot of a supermarket in Virginia. A woman’s body lay on the pavement in a pool of blood, surrounded by police tape to keep back onlookers. Assuming that the report was of a simple homicide, Decker was at first surprised that the media’s attention had so quickly shifted to this from the more important story of fresh water turning into blood. The reporter explained the connection. The water had changed during the night, and most grocery stores had sold out of all milk, bottled water, and other drinks within a half hour of opening. Even canned vegetables like green beans and corn were bought up for the water in the cans. Some who arrived late at the stores panicked and fights had broken out over what little was left. At this supermarket in Virginia, two women had fought in the store over the last gallon of milk. The woman who lost the battle left the store, went to her car, and retrieved a gun. Waiting for the other woman to leave the store, she had followed her to her car, shot her three times in the back of the head and then fled. A few feet from the lifeless body lay the remains of the plastic milk bottle, which had broken open when it hit the ground.”
And this is just one description of many in this series. Friends, we need to understand that the chaos of the last days will be exponentially worse, and horrifically greater than what we’re seeing today.
THE BOTTOM LINE — IT’S BAD, BUT NOT THAT BAD! Friends, what we see today, with the chaos, the toilet paper and essential goods’ hoarding and buying up by frightened people around the world is light, light, light compared to what is written in the Bible concerning the End Times. Friends what we’re seeing may be stupid, inconceivable, and downright dumb, but it is nothing compared to what will happen in the minutes, hours, and days following the Rapture of the Church. Millions will disappear in an instant, with those left behind dazed, confused, and frightened. Imagine whole families vanishing, often right before other people’s eyes; pilots and airline crews – and ocean liner crews, as well – disappearing mid-trip. Cars will become projectiles as drivers disappear, causing vehicles of every sort to go out of control. Friends, it will be a time of chaos, confusion, and bewilderment — not to mention fear, hysteria, and insanity —the likes of which this world has never, ever seen. The time we live in, with the Coronavirus running amok, is light by comparison. Now is certainly not the time to be in such a panic.
CONCLUSION — HE HASN’T LEFT US BEREFT OF HIS PRESENCE! The Presence of the Holy Ghost of GOD is still on the Earth. As such, GOD is still in control, and he will deal with the COVID-19 virus. It may be with us for awhile, but GOD will grant us his peace. Friends, this is the time for you to turn to him in repentance and salvation,if you’ve not done so. If you’ve drifted from him, today is the day to return! COVID-19 is not the end-all, finisher from GOD…but it is one more indicator that this return is very, very soon. Trust in Him, the LORD Jesus the Christ, today!
PRAYER — Dear Heavenly Father, would you please see us through this time of worldwide trial and testing? Would you please bring healing to those who are suffering with the CoronaVirus infection? Would you comfort those who have lost loved ones because of this pestilence and plague? For the rest of us, Father, would you help us to simply trust in you, and not give heed to fear, panic, or hysteria? We know, O LORD,that you will bring us through. Will you please hold our hands as we walk in this new and different phase of life? Would you give strength to doctors and nurses, scientists and epidemiologists, as they find a vaccine and a cure for the infection that CoronaVirus brings? We thank Thee, O Elohim, for your love, the gift of Salvation that is only through Jesus the Messiah, in Whose Majestic Name we pray, Amen!
THE LAST WORD — “And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fearnot, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
