ALLAYING THOSE FEARS!

FDR WAS  CORRECT:  WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR!

In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.  The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”[1][2]

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”

“Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.  Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.  For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.  But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.  In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.”

“But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;  To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.”

As the Panic sets in and the fears of the COVID-19 virus lock down all gatherings, events, and public conventions, we simply need to know that there is no need to fear.

WHAT FEAR IS — The Bible gives us a pretty good description of what fear is…

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

Fear is such a dangerous and effective weapon because there is torment in fear.  What exactly is torment?

TORMENT (noun) — 1: extreme pain or anguish of body or mind: AGONY; 2: a source of vexation or pain;  3: the infliction of torture (as by rack or wheel)

TORMENT (verb) — 1: to cause severe usually persistent or recurrent distress of body or mind to; 2: DISTORT, TWIST [source][3]

Fear is simply that:  torment; and nothing good comes from torment.  Yet this is the weapon of choice for those in the media.  Fear is used as a means of control, and we are seeing how fear is being used to control literally every segment of life in the USA during this whole COVID-19 situation.  Sporting events — many of which haven’t had cancellations in decades — are being canceled.  Conventions and interest events are being scrubbed.  Schools are closing and in-person classes going strictly and exclusively on-line at every grade level.  Even faith services at churches and other religious centers are being paused.  Why is this happening?  It is simply because people are giving into fear.

WE DON’T HAVE TO GIVE IN TO FEAR — President Franklin Delano Roosevelt said it best for these modern and 21st Century times back during the depths and hopelessness of the Great Depression in the USA…

“So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself  nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.” [source]

Here is more encouragement, more truth from the same speech (FDR’s 1933 Inaugural Address)…

“The basic thought that guides these specific means of national recovery is not narrowly nationalistic. It is the insistence, as a first consideration, upon the interdependence of the various elements in all parts of the United States—a recognition of the old and permanently important manifestation of the American spirit of the pioneer. It is the way to recovery. It is the immediate way. It is the strongest assurance that the recovery will endure.

“In the field of world policy I would dedicate this Nation to the policy of the good neighbor—the neighbor who resolutely respects himself and, because he does so, respects the rights of others—the neighbor who respects his obligations and respects the sanctity of his agreements in and with a world of neighbors.

“If I read the temper of our people correctly, we now realize as we have never realized before our interdependence on each other; that we can not merely take but we must give as well; that if we are to go forward, we must move as a trained and loyal army willing to sacrifice for the good of a common discipline, because without such discipline no progress is made, no leadership becomes effective. We are, I know, ready and willing to submit our lives and property to such discipline, because it makes possible a leadership which aims at a larger good. This I propose to offer, pledging that the larger purposes will bind upon us all as a sacred obligation with a unity of duty hitherto evoked only in time of armed strife.

“We face the arduous days that lie before us in the warm courage of the national unity; with the clear consciousness of seeking old and precious moral values; with the clean satisfaction that comes from the stern performance of duty by old and young alike. We aim at the assurance of a rounded and permanent national life.

“We do not distrust the future of essential democracy. The people of the United States have not failed. In their need they have registered a mandate that they want direct, vigorous action. They have asked for discipline and direction under leadership. They have made me the present instrument of their wishes. In the spirit of the gift I take it.

“In this dedication of a Nation we humbly ask the blessing of God. May He protect each and every one of us. May He guide me in the days to come.”[source]

Christ Jesus, the Messiah and Son of GOD, spoke similarly two thousand years before…

Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.  What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.  And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.  Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”[4]

“And I say unto you my friends, ‘Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.’  But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: ‘Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell;’ yea, I say unto you, ‘Fear him.’ Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?  But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

We have no need to fear, if we are trusting in GOD…

“As he spake these words, many believed on him.  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, ‘If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’  They answered him, ‘We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, “Ye shall be made free”?’  Jesus answered them, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, “Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.  And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.”  If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.’”

JESUS THE MESSIAH:  THE FEAR BREAKER — We’ve already seen that Christ Jesus sets us free from fear, and if we know him, there’s no need to fear.  What we fail to understand is that Jesus the Messiah is also The Ultimate Fear Breaker.  Take a look at this incredible passage…

“And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, ‘Master, carest thou not that we perish?’  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, ‘Peace, be still.’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.  And he said unto them, ‘Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?’  And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, ‘What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?’”

We see, right here in this passage, where there was a literal sense of fear and reason for that fear…and yet, Christ Jesus arose and calmed things, sending the disciples’ fear in a different direction.  We see this again in the Gospels…

“And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.  And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.  And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us: we perish.’  And he saith unto them, ‘Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?’  Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.  But the men marvelled, saying, ‘What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!’”

Friends, simply put, Jesus the Christ is the Fear Breaker!  And this is so, even in the face of death…

“While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, ‘Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master.’  But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, ‘Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.’  And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.  And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, ‘Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.’  And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.  And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, ‘Maid, arise.’  And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.  And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.”

This is so even in the face of his own death and resurrection…

“Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Friends, Jesus the Messiah is The Fear Breaker!

THE BOTTOM LINE: WE FEAR BECAUSE WE DON’T BELIEVE!  Many may ask why, then, if Jesus the Christ is The Fear Breaker, do we see the United States of America, yeah, most EVERY nation, giving into the fear of the Coronavirus and the panic associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic?  The simple answer is that people fail to believe the Words of Jesus the Christ; people have chosen to disbelieve the written Word of GOD!  Look at what it says here…

“And one of the multitude answered and said, ‘Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.’  He answereth him, and saith, ‘O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.’  And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.  And he asked his father, ‘How long is it ago since this came unto him?’ And he said, ‘Of a child. And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.’  Jesus said unto him, ‘If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.’ And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, ‘Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.’  When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, ‘Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.’  And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, ‘He is dead.’  But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.”

Did you see what Jesus told the father of the devil-possessed boy?  Look at this passage…

“And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.  Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, ‘Why could not we cast him out?’  And Jesus said unto them, ‘Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, ‘Remove hence to yonder place;’ and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”’”

Again, right here, we see that the disciples could not cast a devil out of a person because of unbelief.  So it is with us and this Coronavirus panic:  it has engulfed this world because of our unbelief.  When we fail to believe, tragedy takes place.  When we doubt, look at what happens…

“But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, ‘Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.’  And Peter answered him and said, ‘Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.’  And he said, ‘Come.’ And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, ‘Lord, save me.’  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, ‘O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?’”

Belief causes to be able to walk to Jesus on the water!  Doubt will cause us to sink every time.  It’s time for people to start believing in Jesus the Christ!

CONCLUSION:  FEAR AND DEATH OR BELIEF AND LIFE?  Friends, it’s really that simple:  if we believe, we live; if we doubt and have fear and give into panic, we die.  Again, we see this clearly spoken of by Yeshua Ha’Mashiach…

Ultimately, all the COVID-19 Virus can do is kill the body; it cannot touch the soul.  We have already seen how the fear of the Coronavirus has far outweighed its real dangers.  Friends, that’s all that this is: disbelief given over to fear.  Jesus Christ can give you the confidence to face even the COVID-19 Virus.  Have faith in him today!  Trust in his salvation today!  He will set you free from fear, from torment, and from the panic of the Coronavirus!

PRAYER — Dear heavenly Father, we are in a world that is gripped in fear, enslaved to panic, and fettered in hysteria over a virus.  O LORD, would you give us peace today?  Would you help us, O Elohim, to trust in your unfailing and endless love, your fathomless forgiveness, and your bottomless strength?  We pray for those who are infected with the Coronavirus, for those who have family and friends infected, and, especially, for those who’ve lost loved ones to this virus.:  would you bring healing, bring peace, bring joy, and bring  strong sense of your presence?  We love you, today, O LORD:  would you allay our fears as only you can?  We pray all of these things, and we give Thee thanks, in the Name of the Risen LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen!

THE LAST WORD — “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”  (1st John iv. 18)
