Dear Mrs. Winner-Davis,
I was glad to see that your attorney has filed a clemency petition for your daughter. Perhaps you might find it strange that a conservative blog would be on your and your daughter’s side. In fact, while some here certainly disagree, I’ve been on your side for quite some time.
Having said that, I hope you’ll hear me out a bit further. In my view, you are reaching out to the wrong people.
The people that can help your daughter are not on the political left but rather on the political right.
Let’s start with President Trump. Regardless of what you think of him politically or personally, he is the one with the power and while we can’t read his mind, I think it’s likely that he will ask two questions: “What’s in it for me and what’s the downside?”
“What’s in it for me?” is cover for other pardons he might want to do. I think it’s likely that independents would see it as a positive come November.
And now we must ask the question: “what’s the downside?” The answer is that you and Reality won’t be able to keep your mouths shut. I’m sorry to be so blunt but one of the keys to a pardon is avoiding “no good deed goes unpunished.” Of course, should she be pardoned, you and she have every right to speak your mind but — she’s not going to get a pardon if the president believes she will be a distraction this election cycle.
Now I’d like to address how people on the political right should be and can be your greatest champion.
We on the right are pretty well convinced that we were correct about the Deep State and that there are those within the government who are protected regardless of the crimes they commit. And then there are regular citizens who are punished out of proportion for whatever crimes they might have committed. Not only that, some of these crimes wouldn’t have even occurred at all had there not been situations created by the Deep State to entrap them.
As we sit here today, Roger Stone has been sentenced to 40 months for lying to the FBI over the same Russian Collusion Hoax that entrapped your daughter. By the way, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the Russians played around a bit with meddling in the election. Of course, the United States does the same thing and I find it rather disingenuous that we won’t acknowledge that simple fact. What the Mueller Report confirmed is that the president had no part in it which was obvious from the start.
We on the political right get it — people within the government are fully capable of using citizens for their own political purposes. Your daughter was never intended to be caught up in it. But, ironically, her situation is much like that of Roger Stone, General Flynn, and, in fact, the president himself.
No one expects either you or your family to be fans of the president and we’re perfectly fine with that. I do think there’s a lot to be gained by being fans of not using the government to manipulate otherwise law abiding patriots into doing illegal things.
If the Sparta Report can help you, please reach out.
