SpaceX Launch Abort Test is Tomorrow Morning!

Test window opens at 8:00 a.m. EST

This one should be a doozie. SpaceX will be doing a launch abort test of its manned Dragon capsule tomorrow morning. The test window opens at 8:00 a.m. EST so we should probably begin watching about 7:45 EST.

A Falcon 9 rocket will be launched and then the engines will be cut off prematurely. The SuperDraco engines on Dragon will pull the capsule away from the Falcon 9 to what will hopefully be a safe landing in the ocean.

CNN is reporting that Bernie Sanders will be the test dummy for the flight. That’s not true. The flight is unmanned, of course.

What’s not totally clear is what will happen to the Falcon 9. It will certainly have a Rapid Unplanned Disassembly (RUD) or Rapid Planned Disassembly in this instance perhaps. What’s not completely clear is whether the Falcon 9 will explode, smash into the ocean, or a combination.
