They feature Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin ("Buzz") Aldrin carrying out tasks on a clearly simulated lunar surface. While the astronauts practice manoeuvres, including collecting soil samples, men in shirts and ties can be seen in the background casually observing the scene. In fact, these are real training simulations carried out in Houston three months before the actually set foot on the moon. The practice sessions were carried out over a number of days in April 1969 in Building 9 of the Texas-based U.S. space agency facility. The images were unearthed by tech website Gizmodo.

Do yourself a favor and make sure you see the Apollo 11 documentary at the movies — in IMAX if possible. It’s not showing everywhere so you may have to hunt for it.

The movie includes parts of a newly discovered trove of 65mm footage and more than 11,000 hours of uncatalogued audio recordings. It is completely and totally awesome particularly if your memories are of grainy black and white images as are mine.

The official website is https://www.apollo11movie.com/ which will also help you find showings. Did I mention that it’s completely and totally awesome?

One of the things I didn’t realize was that Ted Kennedy’s murder of Mary Jo Kopechne on ‎July 18, 1969 was Day 3 of the Apollo 11 mission. I can only assume that the Democrats orchestrated this to dominate the news cycle in hopes of neutralizing any accolades that President Nixon might heap upon the astronauts [Note A].

I guess I need to do a review. Well, Neil Armstrong gives the same wooden, test pilot-esque performance, Buzz Aldrin wasn’t quite as loonie back them, and I’m not sure Michael Collins was even mentioned in the credits. And Walter Cronkite gave a wonderful performance as a newsman who actually reported the news from time to time (his stance on Vietnam not withstanding). Neil Armstrong had ONE LINE to say and he messed it up this time as well!

Please, go see this movie! If not not for yourself, do it for the children!

[Note A] No, I don’t believe that but if any left wing nutters want to tell CNN that I said it, go ahead.
