By now, most of you have heard the news that Jussie Smollett’s hate crime hoax story has essentially collapsed, and it’s a matter at this point of what he will do now that he’s been exposed. Early reports have him doubling down and rumors of a grand jury to hear his case next week:
A grand jury will hear the Jussie Smollett case early next week … law enforcement sources tell TMZ.
Law enforcement sources connected to the investigation tell TMZ, the 2 brothers who were arrested and then released are staying somewhere around the Loop in downtown Chicago under the watchful eye of police so no one gets to them. We’re told cops especially want to make sure Jussie does not contact the brothers.
We’re told when police raided the home of the 2 brothers they found magazines with pages torn out, and authorities are now trying to determine if the missing pages are connected to the threatening letter that was sent to Jussie 8 days before the alleged attack.
Our sources say early on they asked Jussie if he’d sign complaints against the 2 men who attacked him and he was clear that he would. But, when he found out the 2 brothers were the ones in custody we’re told he said he knew them, felt bad for them and declined to sign the complaints.
Our sources say although cops believe the brothers purchased the rope that was around Jussie’s neck after the incident, there is no surveillance video at the hardware store because it erases after a week.
If Jussie Smollett were smart, he’d stop digging, because he can still get out of this. He could, in theory, start by releasing a statement like this:
“I apologize to the people of Chicago and especially the CPD. for this incident. This incident was meant to be artistic street theater to help raise awareness of the racism and bigotry created by Donald Trump and his supporters.
I never imagined the incident would catch fire on social media and spiral out of control the way it has. I can only apologize for my confusing statements, pledge to do better in the future and hope I have done my part in taking a stand against racism and bigotry in the United States of America.”
That’s about the best possible spin he could put on it and would mollify some lefties. The media would declare case closed, he’d get community service from a judge, he could take a year off work to let the furor die down, and maybe donate money to Kamala 2020. He’d likely be back in Hollywood soon enough. The Chicago police and government would be thrilled to have a politically sensitive case like this disappear in a puff of smoke.
A tactic like this is usually used by social justice warriors when they’re caught making up stories and engaging in hoaxes like this. While they might suffer some reputational damage, it usually gets them off the hook legally at least.
This is what Smolllett would do IF he were smart. But he isn’t smart, and I think he is too entitled and arrogant to admit he made the whole thing up, given that he seems to be doubling down. That will force the Chicago authorities to begin legal action against him.
The collapse of a high profile hoax like this is good news for us, and it will be even better if Smollett goes to trial and is forced to do actual jail time. It might make social justice warriors think twice before engaging in more of these racial hoaxes.
