The charges come just days after Jussie Smollett had been accused of fabricating a racially motivated assault against him last month.
Chicago PD detectives spent the better part of Wednesday presenting the evidence they had gathered against Jussie Smollett to the grand jury.
Smollett is expected to appear in court tomorrow to answer the charges.
Update: Jussie Smollett’s attorneys have issued a statement.
NEW: Statement from Jussie Smollett's attorneys: “Like any other citizen, Mr. Smollett enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked.” https://t.co/6agYN00wVv pic.twitter.com/qg1MZq0C4I
