I was disappointed with the president’s remarks. I was a little concerned that since the event was scheduled for 3:00 on a Saturday, it really wouldn’t be a major announcement but I was certainly hoping for something that would be more of a game changer.
As others pointed out, it had the effect of putting a proposal into the record. The president had to know that it would be rejected out of hand which it was. In fact, it was rejected an hour before it was even given!
Now what? My preference would be an all out media blitz to sell the plan because, after all, it is really a very tiny step and probably a reasonable approach to ending the partial shutdown. The Democrat position of “open the government and then maybe we’ll talk” just doesn’t seen sustainable.
But heck, as many have pointed out, what do I know?
