Will President Trump pull a Jesse Ventura in 2020?

Thank good ol’ Joe Scarborough.

Morning Joe might be suffering from Mika-induced Trump Derangement Syndrome, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be an acorn-seeking blind pig who stumbles onto a stopped clock twice a day.

So when Joe’s fart-inflated trail balloon postulating President Trump might not opt for a second term in 2020 cleared the Sunday-school airspace last week most of The Punditry was quick to launch arrows of doubt at that floating premise.

Well, as someone who lived through The Ventura Insurgency up yonder in The Loon & Tick State back in the waning days of the 20th century Your Uncle Bruno can attest to the potential veracity of Crazy Joe’s theory.

Some similarities:

Trump & Ventura won unexpected victories.

Trump & Ventura have pro rasslin’ pedigrees.

Trump & Ventura are/were hated by The Press.

Trump & Ventura are/were system disrupters.

Trump & Ventura have charismatic star quality & are unabashed capitalists

Keep fishing in that pond and you’ll pull out a bucket full of more similarities but you catch my drift here.

However, there are also significant differences between El Donaldo & The Feather-Boa’ed One including:

Trump heads a major political party; Ventura was a one man band.

Trump is a big picture wheeler-dealer, Ventura was All About Jesse.

Trump is enjoying major legislative & policy success; Ventura’s accomplishments were strictly minor league.

Trump’s legacy will be long-lasting and impactful, Ventura legacy is “dust-bin of history” worthy.

Again, there are a whole buncha more “not likes” than “likes” to round out the scorecard.

But there is One Big Wild Card in the deck and it can’t be ignored:

Trump is a confirmed and calculating contrarian.

You want system disruption, you got system disruption – right there.

Granted that the guy seems to have superhuman stamina and is a walking-talking poster child for Friedrich Nietzsche, but The Trumpster will be 74 years old in 2020 and, while still considerably junior to such spring chickens as Joe Biden & Bernie Sanders and is in light-years away better health than Hacking Hillary, simple biology starts to come into play.

Which begs The Big Question:

Is Trump a “movement” catalyst seeking fundamental change in American culture and politics or is he a fortunate opportunist making the best of a one-time bolt from the blue?

Scarborough is all in on the side of Trump as a One Hit Wonder who captured lightning in a jug once and is a sharp enough operator to (as Ventura did) take a pass on doubling-down two years out.

Your Uncle Bruno’s counter-intuitive take: if there is a Blue Wave or even a rising Blue Tide three weeks hence Trump’s combative juices get Red Bulled and a run in 2020’s a done deal.

But if The Red holds both houses of Congress El Donaldo may shift into Legacy Mode and chose to go The Full Ethan Edwards.

Take your pick: Uncle Bruno or Morning Joe.

Written by Bruno Strozek

Bruno Strozek is the author of occasionally semi-coherent piffle and has been a Writer/Editor at Sparta Report since July 2016.

Strozek, along with his alter-egos the decadent, drug-addled Sixties refugee Uncle Bruno and his intolerably feminist SJW Cousin Brunoetta have been riding the not-yet crested wave of deplorability with posts covering politics, sports, entertainment and zombies.

Aptly described as both "hilarious and deeply disturbed" Strozek has enthusiastically embraced the recommendation of the late Raoul Duke that "when the going gets weird the weird turn pro."

Although he has fallen far short of his bucket-list goal of writing for such respectable rags as The National Enquirer and The Weekly World News Strozek is grateful for the opportunity to pen his unhinged screeds at Sparta Report and is constantly amazed and delighted at the reception his pieces receive in the cements.
