Trump Goes After Social Media for Censoring His Supporters

A day late and a dollar short

Trump has finally made his feelings clear on “Big Tech” going after his supporters:

President Trump on Saturday issued a tweet-storm following the removal of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his InfoWars shows from most major social media platforms earlier this month.

“Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices,” the president wrote in the first of several tweets. “Speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen.”

The president did not indicate what steps his administration might take to prevent private companies from setting up and enforcing terms of service that have allowed them to discipline or shut down accounts for reported abuses.

“Too many voices are being destroyed, some good & some bad, and that cannot be allowed to happen,” he wrote, without naming any specific accounts.

“Censorship is a very dangerous thing & absolutely impossible to police,” the president wrote, suggesting that social media companies may be politically motivated in enforcing their rules about hate speech and direct calls for violence.

The president’s Twitter storm comes a week after Facebook, Apple,Spotify and YouTube removed from their services most of the content posted by Jones and his InfoWars network, citing what they said were violations of their terms of service.

It’s taken far too long for the president to speak out on this issue, and unfortunately, it’s not going to matter all that much at this point. The tech giants will likely take Trump’s criticism as a badge of honor. They are not businessmen; they are religious fanatics on a crusade (or a jihad if you like) to torch some heretics, and they see Trump as the heretic-in-chief.

To the best of my knowledge, the only way the government can really crack down on these companies is if the DoJ goes after them. And if Trump orders Sessions to do this, Sessions will either laugh in his face outright or else deliberately slow-walk any investigation to ensure that nothing happens before 2020, while Trump’s supporters continue to get banned from the internet.

Virtually all our domestic problems are coming back to Trump not being able to control the DoJ. Without honest lawmen (or at least politically reliable ones), we will never drain the swamp. And draining the swamp is becoming a matter of survival for conservatives at this point, because we’re getting to the point where conservative speech is being banned from the public square. We can’t spread our ideas if we can’t speak freely.

Sessions MUST be fired. He should have been fired a year ago. The clock is ticking, Mr. President.

I also really like pictures of gas stations and claim full responsibility for the silly gas station motif. I'm presently trapped behind enemy lines in a blue state with no hope of escape! The ride never ends.
