I suppose this falls under “dog bites man” (or Omarosa chomps cis) but there was a yuge DFL turnout for the primary on Tuesday.
This does not bode well for a Red Minnesota this year.
Stealth Democrat Socialist Tim Walz is the heavy favorite to take the governor’s chair. Walz is an out-state DFLer who will be able parlay his military background and rural roots into a comfortable win.
His faux support for the NRA while a congressman might be a slight drag, but his two votes to impeach Trump while in Congress should boost the Insane SJW turnout in the Twin Cities and more than compensate for any gains GOP candidate Jeff Johnson might make in greater Minnesota.
In the mildly competitive Senate race for Grabby Al’s old seat appointee Tina Smith should be considered the fav over Karen Housley (a sure winner in a normal year). Smith’s ties to Planned Parenthood could be her Achilles heel if enough pro-life DFLers decide to crossover over in this race.
Doubtful though, given the massive SJW vote of the metro area.
Say adios to GOP congressmen Jason Lewis (a good guy) and Eric Paulson (a #NeverTrumper).
The GOP will pick up the trending red seat in the Deplorable-laden mining country of the Iron Range. They have an almost even shot of taking Walz’s vacant seat in the rural district running across the Iowa/Minnesota border.
So best is a wash in the House races.
And what about Keith Ellison?
Well, that one might be a bridge too far even for the DFL stalwarts. If they are serious about #MeToo the twice accused (Amy Alexander in 2006 and Karen Monahan this year) Ellison steps aside a la Al Franken and a last minute generic female replaces him.
But he probably won’t step aside which means a seemingly credibly accused suspected domestic abuser becomes MN Attorney General by a thin margin.
Finally, the Somali version of Alexandia Ocasio-Cortez, CAIR’s candidate Ilhan Omar, is the shoo-in to replace Keef in the Minneapolis congressional seat.
