The term “The Resistance” is a brilliant persuasion troll that has been swallowed by everyone – left, center and right.
Sure, in Sparta it’s a shorthand way of saying “bat-shit crazy sufferers of Trump Derangement Syndrome” but even here we are not immune to the phrase’s persuasion genius.
Unspoken in “The Resistance” is who is being resisted: it’s not Trump or the GOP or even conservative thought.
No, it’s resistance to Nazis and Nazism.
And therein lay the genesis of the genius.
Every time we (or they) use the words “The Resistance” we are subtly and sub-consciously reinforcing the meme that Trump is a Nazi and Deplorables are at best “good Germans” and at worst active collaborators with the Gestapo or SS.
It’s a psychological persuasion trap and it’s a really, really good one.
The Left has known since Gramsci the usefulness of controlling the levers of The Language and this is yet another example of we conservatives being slow on the uptake and playing catch up culturally.
Plus, if you’re a Leftie, it has the Alinsky-in attraction of being a tactic which your people enjoy.
And I don’t know how to resist this or what the memetic antidote is.
Because you can’t say “bat-shit crazy sufferers of Trump Derangement Syndrome” on radio, TV or in a family newspaper.
