Sparta Report Exclusive: Rich Hobson, Candidate for Congress in Alabama “I Will Not Vote to Fund Planned Parenthood”

Planned Parenthood is an evil business that literally turns a profit through the sacrifice of innocent children. Its executives were even caught on hidden video selling body parts of aborted children like car parts on eBay. And yet the federal government continues to give $500 million dollars every year to Planned Parenthood!  This must stop.

On March 23, 2018, despite the fact that Republicans enjoy a majority in the House and the Senate, Congress once again sent to President Trump a budget bill that included funding for Planned Parenthood. One might even be tempted to joke that a budget deal funding Planned Parenthood was a deal only a liberal, pro-abortion Democrat like Chuck Schumer would love – except he did love the bill and bragged that it was a victory for Democrats. “We don’t have the House. We don’t have the Senate. We don’t have the presidency,” he crowed, “but we produced a darn good bill for the priorities that we have believed in.” This was a defeat for pro-life Americans and Alabamians, and for all the unborn children Planned Parenthood will destroy this year.

How does this continue to happen? How does a Big Abortion juggernaut like Planned Parenthood, which is responsible for 1/3 of all abortions in the U.S., continue to swindle taxpayers out of a half-billion dollars annually? Because Congress keeps voting for budget bills that fund it.

Sure, some congressmen try to excuse their support for the budget bill by claiming that there is no line item in the budget for Planned Parenthood, but that’s just a political sleight-of-hand.  Just two weeks ago, Martha Roby released an op-ed (“Setting the Record Straight”) stating that no money went to Planned Parenthood.  Then why did President Trump announce last week that he was pushing to remove Planned Parenthood from the budget?  Because it’s in the budget.  The abortion giant gets most of its tax money windfall through the Dept. of Human & Health Services (DHHS) instead of a direct budget item.  The result is exactly the same: tax money is funding a business that kills unborn children. And Congress keeps voting for this EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.

Not me. I’m setting the record straight and I’m committing to you, that as a Republican candidate running for Congress in the 2d District, I pledge that I will NEVER vote for a budget bill that gives even one cent to Planned Parenthood. I take seriously the God-given and inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Too many career politicians claim to be pro-life when seeking re-election here in Alabama but they vote like liberal Democrats when they are back in the swamp in Washington, DC. We don’t need more Democrats and fake Republicans in Congress. We need leaders who will stand up for the voiceless unborn.

My pro-life beliefs aren’t just a nice slogan I use because I’m running in a red state and on the Republican ticket. I’ve put that belief into loving and compassionate action. I support crisis pregnancy centers like Sav-A-Life, as I’m sure many reading this have done. When I served as executive director of the Foundation for Moral Law, we filed pro-life legal briefs around the country and in the U.S. Supreme Court. In Alabama, we spearheaded the pro-life personhood movement, and we helped lead the way for the Choose Life car tags.  And then I did something else.

A friend challenged me to come to an abortion clinic in Montgomery and pray on the sidewalk outside. I was very reluctant to do so, but my friend simply asked me to pray about it.  My wife and I did pray, and to our surprise we had a great sense of peace to go and pray.

Praying outside the abortion clinic in Montgomery was one of the most spiritually exhausting experiences of my life. But we were so moved by what we saw that my wife and I kept coming and we kept praying.  Eventually, we were so grieved to see so many young women go to the abortion clinic that we began to try to gently talk to them about their precious baby, God’s plan for them both, and the blessings of choosing life. There was always great joy when a young mother chose to leave that place of death and choose life for her precious baby.

We kept going and after a few years of faithful prayer, that abortion clinic closed and it never reopened. When I think of federal tax money going to fund such bloody businesses, it makes me sick. That’s why I could never vote for a bill that permits money to flow to Planned Parenthood.

Help me yank Planned Parenthood away from the trough of our taxpayer money. Life is a gift of God. And it’s not for sale. In Congress I plan to vote against Planned Parenthood like millions of lives are depending on it. Because they are.

I would be honored to have your vote on June 5.
