President Donald J. Trump has been officially nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by two Norwegian lawmakers. The nomination comes just days after the historic Singapore summit between President Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
The Singapore summit ended with President Trump and Kim Jong Un signing a pledge to work together to dismantle North Korea’s nuclear arsenal, and denuclearize the Korean peninsula. Kim had also agreed to work to return the remains of U.S. servicemen killed during the Korean War.
Christian Tybring-Gjedde and Per-Wily Amudsen, both with Norway’s populist Progress Party, told the Norwegian NTB that President Trump “had taken a huge and important step in the direction of the disarmament, peace and reconciliation between North and South Korea.”
President Trump’s Nobel nomination is also supported by a group of American congressmen.
