As usual, The Donald does what he does best – give voice to what most Republicans are probably thinking privately, but too concerned about the consequences to say in public:
President Donald Trump has criticized the FBI after the agency disclosed that it failed to follow up on a detailed warning about the 19-year-old gunman who is charged with killing 17 people and wounding a dozen others at a Florida high school on Wednesday.
“Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable,” Trump tweeted on Saturday night.
A “person close to Nikolas Cruz” contacted the FBI’s public access tipline on Jan. 5 to “report concerns about him,” the FBI said in a statement Friday. The caller provided information about “Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting,” the statement said.
Florida Governor Rick Scott said the FBI’s failure was “unacceptable” and called for the resignation of FBI Director Christopher Wray.
“Seventeen innocent people are dead and acknowledging a mistake isn’t going to cut it,” Scott said in a statement. “The FBI director needs to resign.”
As usual, Trump is right. The FBI is wasting an enormous amount of effort, time, and taxpayer money trying to impeach and remove Trump from office. The Russia investigation is happening because of pure childish pique that a president the FBI’s leadership and personnel disliked won an election.
How much of the money being wasted on “Russia” is not being used for law enforcement activities? Are “bread and butter” law enforcement issues being completely ignored by the social justice warriors running the FBI?
Of course the answer to the second question is “yes.” Whenever social justice warriors hijack an organization, the purpose of the organization is always increasingly diverted to using their power and money to pursue the implementation of leftist politics. The original goals of the organization gradually fade in importance and are eventually not pursued at all.
FBI Director Christopher Wray has been a huge disappointment. He has repeatedly promised to make big changes in the way the FBI is run, but does not appear to have actually done anything except sit around and soak up taxpayer money. I can think of another supposed “lawman” who is behaving in a similar way.
As Fossten said in his commentary a few days ago, the situation with the FBI has gotten bad enough that it must be shuttered. The list of their recent failures is huge and keeps on growing.
However, it is contingent upon President Trump to take action. His tweets indicate he seems to understand the problem, but so far he has failed to act upon his rhetoric. It’s time to drain the swamp, Mr. President.
