Unlike a lot of former #NeverTrump Republicans, Speaker Ryan has buried the hatchet with President Trump and become a reasonably staunch ally. The Speaker was critical in both creating and getting tax reform passed (and frankly, Ryan’s original version was probably a better bill) and Trump’s winning of his support is paying further dividends now:
Speaker Paul Ryan dismissed Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer’s demands that Nunes resign, saying Congress is “doing its job of oversight” with the memo, adding that “if civil liberties were abused with FISA, then the memo needs to come out.”
- RYAN SAYS IMPORTANT TO SCRUB MEMOS TO PROTECT SOURCE, METHODS
- RYAN SAYS MEMO PROCESS IS EXACTLY WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN
- RYAN SAYS MEMO CHANGES MADE BEFORE VOTE
And Ryan concluded by noting that “the vast majority of FBI employees are doing a great job.”
He’s being a lot nicer than I would, but this is twice now in the last few days that Ryan politely told the Democrats to get bent. I have to say, I am liking the “new, improved” version of the Speaker. If we win the 2018 elections, I think we can expect pretty smooth sailing for the Trump agenda in the House.
Rumors suggest the memo is due to drop some time today. Media everywhere are reporting that Trump has read the memo and has approved the contents for release. The FBI have been begging and pleading for Trump to redact things from it, but it does not look like this is going to happen.
Can this really be a surprise to these people? The FBI, the DOJ, and other federal agencies have gone far outside the law and Democratic norms in a quixotic attempt to “un-elect” President Trump. They have been behaving more like the KGB than the intelligence agency of a functioning democracy. Why on earth would he just roll over for them now, when they’ve made his life hell for the past year?
The behavior from the FBI leadership is typical of social justice warriors, who believe the holiness of their cause puts them above the law. Social justice warriors are always shocked and enraged when their actions yield consequences for them, because of their perception of themselves as an elite that is too high status for consequences to happen to them.
The Democrats have been likewise having hilarious and embarrassing meltdowns, through most of yesterday. Adam Schiff freaked out over the correction of grammatical errors in the memo and Nancy Pelosi demanding Paul Ryan remove Devin Nunes from the House Intelligence committee. As noted above, Ryan laughed her off.
We should be in for an entertaining day today, especially if the memo does implicate FBI and DOJ personnel in wrongdoing like many are suggesting.
