Flashback: The Schumer Shutdown-Temper Tantrum of 2013
In 2013, in the run up to the government shutdown Senator Chuck Schumer delivered a passionate five minute rant against shutdowns.
He targeted ideologues as inflexible and self centered individuals. He specifically targeted his ire against Senator Ted Cruz, who had just held an hours-long filibuster against Obamacare.
Senator Schumer stated that Senator Cruz was attempting to “trample on the rights of his colleagues” and the “needs of the American people.”
Sounds like he forgot to take his own advice?
He stated that “in this country, we have always eschewed ideologues” because they are so sure that “they are right” that “they don’t listen to anyone else, they don’t care about anyone else, and they don’t care about the damage they cause as they pursue their goal.”
He also demanded that Cruz… not hold border agents hostage… in his desire to shut down the government over Obamacare.
Schumer also made a prediction that because the pro-Obamacare Democrats were successful in defeating their opponents in 2012, those who supported Obamacare would win again in 2014 and 2016.
Senator Schumer then issued a challenge to Republicans to keep on attacking Democrats on Obamacare because it had turned into a winning issue for his party.
How wrong he was on his party’s invincibility in the upcoming elections.
