Just for fun, I started thinking about who might run should President Trump decide to not run for a second term.
Let’s start with “why wouldn’t he want to run?” I suspect it will do with whether he believes he can do more good to continue to #MAGA from within or without which also has to do with where the country is in three years. There’s probably a lot to be said for turning the reigns over at the end of one term from President Trump’s perspective particularly if he can help drive the election of someone who can continue his policies of Deplorableism.
And it would be a really Trumpish thing to do! ERMAHGERDTM would that be awesome or what! Can you imagine in early 2020 President Trump announcing that he wouldn’t be running. He has, however, a number of candidates in mind that he will be supporting. In a single instant, the heads of the MSM, the Never Trumpers, the GOPe, and the loonie left would completely spin off. Every bit of fake news and conspiracy nonsense will have been made irrelevant in a single blow.
The obvious first choice is Vice President Mike Pence. I’m thinking probably not since he’d be labeled “Little Donald.” Of course, if President Trump is wildly successful by year three, that might also be a no brainer.
There are any number of choices from his Cabinet. Dr. Carson could run again as well as Rick Perry. Linda McMahon would be fun.
And then there’s Ivanka. Actually, Ivanka would make an awesome Vice Presidential candidate.
President Trump could offer this “Basket of Deplorables” to participate in the primaries. From a funding perspective, it would be interesting to have a PAC that could fund each of them equally in a manner that tends to ensure that one of the Deplorables prevails should the GOPe decide to run someone of their own. With President Trump’s focus on winning, as long as one of the Deplorables is the party nominee, that’s a win for President Trump and the country.
The 2020 election would be twice as fun with President Trump jetting around doing MAGA rallies. The Deplorable candidate would be running loosely under the banner of what remains of the Republican Party. There would be complete and total unity by the “party” in defeating whoever the Democrats nominate. Of course, the GOPe will still be there along with their members of the swamp, but they can either get on the train this time or not — at this point I really don’t care because they’ve shown who they are and what they believe and it’s not what it will take to MAGA.
My preferred scenario, of course, is for President Trump to run for a second term. I mean, really? Have we ever had more fun than having a president who knows we need something to liven up a slow news day and tweets:
Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
Thank God for Twitter and thank God for President Trump!
