Whelp. I think it is time to say goodbye to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
naHis statement came from an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. It was a complete disaster for him.
In his overzealous need to showcase how much he hates Nazis over everyone and anything, he decided to throw the President under the bus.
Wallace: Finally and I’ve got a little over a minute left, the controversy over the racial protests in Charlottesville and the President’s response to it has become an international issue. A UN Committee this week criticized the Trump Administration for its “failure at the highest political level… to unequivocally reject and condemn the racist violent events and demonstrations”. And here was the President in Phoenix earlier this week talking more about the media than the neo-Nazis and the Klan.
Does that make it harder for you to push American values around the world when some foreign leaders question the President’s values?
Tillerson: Chris, we express America’s values from the State Department. We represent the American people, we represent America’s values, our committment to freedom, our commitment to equal treatment of people the world over, and that message has never changed.
Wallace: And when the President gets into the kind of controversy he does, and the UN committee responds the way it does, it seems… they begin to doubt whether we’re living those values.
Tillerson: I don’t believe anyone doubts the American people’s values or the committment of the American government or its agencies to advancing those values and defending those values.
Wallace: And the President’s values?
Tillerson: The President speaks for himself, Chris.
Wallace: Are you separating yourself from that, sir?
Tillerson: I’ve spoken, I’ve made my own comments as to our values in a speech I made to the State Department this past week.

The man had been rumored in late June to be slow walking or refusing to respond to White House personnel recommendations for state department positions (of course this was sourced from the usual suspects, unnamed sources within the White House).
To be fair of course, Secretary of State Tillerson has been reducing staffing at the agency since he assumed the role through attrition and other means.
But his response here was a direct slap in the face for President Trump. Normally, these politicos dodge and deflect answers that could be embarassing to their higher ups. Tillerson took Chris Wallace’s premise that we should be attacking the neo-Nazis more and the media, Antifa less and told the Fox News host that he and the state department and the government at large share the values of the media and the United Nations in condemning the Nazis and the Klan.
And after he was done speaking for the country, everyone in the government, the State Department, and himself on the values of combating and killing Nazi and Klan ideology, Chris Wallace asks him a very pointed question, does the President share our values?
And instead of dodging, reframing, deflecting, or rejecting the premise, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson simply stated: The President speaks for himself, Chris.
The President speaks for himself, Chris.
The President is a neo-Nazi sympathizer, Chris.
The President wants more dead black folk, Chris.
The President goes to Klan meetups on Friday night, Chris.
The President hates the Messicans, Chris.
The chief diplomat of the United States, everyone.
