FBI Raids Manafort’s Home
The deep state is sending a message to Trump supporters: “If you work for Trump, we’re going to throw the book at you.”
FBI agents raided the Alexandria home of President Trump’s former campaign chairman late last month, using a search warrant to seize documents and other materials, according to people familiar with the special counsel investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Federal agents appeared at Paul Manafort’s home without advance warning in the predawn hours of July 26, the day after he met voluntarily with the staff for the Senate Intelligence Committee.
The search warrant was wide-ranging and FBI agents working with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III departed the home with various records.
The raid came as Manafort has been voluntarily producing documents to congressional committees investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. The search warrant indicates investigators may have argued to a federal judge they had reason to believe Manafort could not be trusted to turn over all records in response to a grand jury subpoena.
It could also have been intended to send a message to President Trump’s former campaign chairman that he should not expect gentle treatment or legal courtesies from Mueller’s team.
The number one problem for Trump seems to be finding qualified people to work for him. This is going to make it even harder. Would YOU want to work at the higher levels of Trump’s 2020 campaign if the FBI was going to raid your home for being a “Russian spy?”
This raid was completely unethical if it was used to “send a message.” Breaking into someone’s home, trashing it, and carrying off personal effects to “send a message” to those who are politically disfavored is not how a Republic works. The FBI is behaving like good, old-fashioned gangsters. Remember when law enforcement was supposed to protect us from the thugs and the goons?
One commenter compared this to the Walker investigations, a never-ending political witch hunt where increasingly unethical actions were used to justify the witch hunt’s existence and terrorize Walker’s supporters. The continued refusal of Jeff Sessions to act ethically and fire Mueller for his conflicts of interest baffles me. I can only conclude he is as corrupt as the rest of them.
