Weekly Gaming/Tech Thread #31 – Loyalty Day Edition

10 PRINT “Hello world”

20 GOTO 10

Welcome to the weekly gaming/tech thread at the Sparta Report. As your host, I’ve collected a bunch of gaming and technology news into one place for you to chew on although my internet connection at home has been making this a real headache this weekend.

So sit back and relax before you go to do battle in the Dank Meme Wars against the commies today!

What Are We Playing This Week

Sure, sure, more Zelda:BOTW as I work on finding all of the shrines (without looking them up online) before I go to battle Ganon. I’m reaching about 80 hours invested into this game so far. But I also got an opportunity to play some of my arcade machines this week, most notably Dariusburst Another Chronicle where I was able to get the second star system up to 50% complete. Unfortunately no one locally really knows about Chronicle Mode, which was designed to get more people to play the game, but it has been getting more love lately after I moved my business. In fact, this awesome arcade shoot ’em up has more than doubled its earnings over where it was. Weird, but I’ll take it.

Call of Duty: WWII Trailer / Devs Try To Bill It As Anti-War – No future fantasy warfare this time as the Call of Duty series goes back to its roots of a WWII shooter. I don’t recall the D-Day invasion being in the other CODs although it has been a while since I played the first 3. Now who wants to place their bets as to the final product looking completely different (i.e. worse) from what’s shown here?

Before that however, Sledgehammer used the opportunity of the reveal to tout that this game will somehow prevent World War 3 and is really anti-war at it’s heart as it ‘teaches’ players about what WW2 was really like. I’m sure more SJW politics will boost those sales, amirite?

Official Call of Duty®: WWII Reveal Trailer

WWII confirmed. Over two years in the making, Sledgehammer Games delivers a gritty, personal experience in the setting of the largest worldwide conflict in history to a new gaming generation in Call of Duty®: WWII. Play through the story of ordinary men turned soldiers in the 1st Infantry Division as they fight to preserve freedom in the face of tyranny.

Nintendo To Release The New 2DSXL – “Um, ok.” is what I first thought when I saw this. They obviously see a market for this out there but it seems like it would have made more sense last year while the WiiU had nothing going for it while the Switch was on its way. I think it also says that stereo 3D gaming is pretty much dead. I know my son when he plays his 3DS never uses it in 3D mode anyways and I haven’t used it much either. Nintendo is going to support the 2DS/3DS family through next year at least.

Forza Horizon 3 Hot Wheels Trailer (XB1) – In case you still want something for your Xbox One. Maybe that’s why they called it the one. Because it has virtually nothing exclusive on it (zing!)

The racing game is getting 10 new cars, including the Twin Mill and Boneshaker, along with loops and corkscrews with this expansion. Forza Horizon 3 Review: Watch more trailers here! Watch the latest from IGN here! ———————————- Follow IGN for more!

Happy Alien Day With Alien 35th Anniversary Pinball – I want one but moving my business has meant that I’ve spent about as much as it would take to buy one of these on the new space. The “artwork subject to approval” was received via Fox so unless they want to change it again after the fact, this is what will be shipping out.

Homebrew of the Week: Mecha 8 (Sega Master System) – It’s still a demo that was created for a coding competition but still looks like great vertical shooting fun for the SMS with a groovy soundtrack to accompany it:

Western Digital Begins Shipping 12TB, Helium-Filled Hard Drives – That’s right, Hard Drives are now being filled with Helium as a way to reduce friction and vibrations within the drive. With that you get the ability to house eight platter drives sporting plenty of bit space per square inch. This is not the first helium HDD that WD has created, a 10TB version is out there and Seagate will also be shipping soon.

It took 4 generations and 8 disks to deliver 12TB in an industry-standard, enterprise-class 3.5-inch HDD. It’s the industry’s highest capacity HDD that’s drop-in-ready for capacity workloads in the data center. Find out how did we did it…and more importantly, why.
