First Partisan Filibuster Will Not Stop Judge Neil Gorsuch From Becoming a Justice of the Supreme Court – Mitch McConnell
Mitch McConnell has confirmed today that President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Gorsuch, WILL be confirmed on Friday irrespective of the state of the Democrat filibuster against the nominee. This is quite a difference from his earlier statements in January this year, where McConnell stated that he would not be changing the filibuster rules.
Mitch McConnell has the backing of John McCain, who is going to “reluctantly” vote to end the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees. Lindsey Graham and Lisa Murkowski have both come out in favor of confirming Gorsuch by whatever means necessary.
The Republican leadership in the Senate, for some reason, has suddenly realized that the Democrat party has been captured entirely by the social justice warriors and anti-American communists/socialists.
Chuck Schumer let go the real reason for the Democrats to filibuster Neil Gorsuch, he will be the most conservative Supreme Court Justice ever.
Chuck Schumer also told the Senate that this filibuster is not the fault of the Democrats. Schumer absolved his party of any responsibility for the consequences of their actions (par for the course with Democrats) and placed the blame of the filibuster squarely on the Republicans. He stated that this is the “fallout” from using another nuclear option (not scheduling him for a hearing) against Barack Obama’s nominee Merrick Garland.
He statement from the Senate chamber this morning on Neil Gorsuch:
“I was listening to the majority leader earlier this morning, and I cannot believe that he can stand here on the floor of the US Senate and with a straight face say that the democrats are launching the first partisan filibuster of a Supreme Court Nominee.
What the majority leader did to Merrick Garland by denying him even a hearing and a vote is even worse than a filibuster. For him to accuse Democrats for the first partisan filibuster on the supreme court belies the facts, belies the history, belies the basic truth.
As my friend representative Adam Schiff has said, when McConnell deprived President Obama of a vote on garland it was a nuclear option, the rest is fallout. Let me repeat that… when McConnell deprived President Obama of a vote on garland it was a nuclear option, the rest is fallout.”
Chuck Schumer Says Democrats Must Filibuster Gorsuch as revenge against the GOP not allowing Merrick Garland a hearing. He later reveals the real reason for blocking Gorsuch with the filibuster in the Senate: Gorsuch will be the most conservative Supreme Court Justice ever.
Mitch McConnell wasn’t having any of it this afternoon. He moved immediately at 2:15 PM EST to start the final process to confirm Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. The Democrats could only muster 44 votes to stop the process with the Republicans managing to snatch three Democrats to vote with the majority to get 55 votes in confirmation to formally consider Neil Gorsuch.
Now begins the clock to the final motion to end two days of debate on Thursday. On Thursday this week, Mitch McConnell will have his “do or die” moment as the Democrats will combine to block the President’s nominee. The filibuster will happen and the cloture vote will fail.
Mitch McConnell at that moment will either decide to let the Democrats control the agenda or destroy their IWIN button on Supreme Court nominees forever by using the nuclear option against the filibuster. He’s signaled today that he will indeed drop a nuke from orbit on the Democrats. And I only have two words to say on this subject:
Update: Harry Reid Dared the GOP to Use the Nuclear Option Against the Filibuster in 2013
Whoa. In 2013, Reid asked if he was worried GOP could change filibuster on #SCOTUS. His response: “Let ’em do it” https://t.co/OG3sL0QM8Z https://t.co/st8g1T698I
UPDATE: Mitch McConnell Files Cloture at 6:30PM EST 4/4/17
Mitch McConnell just filed a cloture motion and has started the countdown to the vote. The vote can happen as soon as an hour after the Senate gavels in on Thursday morning.
