SOUNDVIEW, The Bronx — Police say an emergency medical technician (EMT) in the Bronx has died after she was run over by a stolen ambulance.
Another EMT who was struck remains in critical condition at Jacobi Hospital.
Authorities say the two EMT workers were hit by the vehicle moments after it was stolen in the area of White Plains Road and Watson Avenue in the Bronx at around 7 p.m. Thursday.
Sources tell PIX11 News the EMT crew stopped to help someone who was allegedly being robbed.
As they exited the vehicle to assist, sources say the robbery suspect jumped in the ambulance and attempted to drive away, striking the EMTs before crashing into a snow bank.
The driver of the stolen ambulance is in custody, police say.
